Extra credit project for International students ------SHAO TIANYI

1. Experience in English courses at Korean universities

As an international student, I was privileged to participate in English courses offered by Korean universities, which not only enriched my academic knowledge, gave me the opportunity to study English, but also gained valuable experience in adapting to life in Korea.

Hanyang University's English program provides a good learning platform for international students. These courses are rich in content and focus on a combination of practice and theory. For example, the courses I study include not only academic knowledge, but also how to use Wiki technology to complete team projects. Through these courses, I not only improved my academic ability, but also learned many practical skills. At the same time, the professor's classes are very interactive, often ask questions for us to answer, actively participate in classroom discussions, and learn more deeply about the content, but also exercise my oral skills.

2. Tips for adapting to life in Korea

As an international student, the biggest challenge in Korea is cultural and linguistic adaptation.

Here are some of my suggestions:

Continuous learning of Korean: Although there are some English courses, most of the courses are dominated by Korean, especially as a theoretical student like me, the need to improve Korean is even more urgent. At the same time, fluent Korean can also make daily life more convenient.

Incorporate local culture: Korea is rich in cultural activities such as traditional festivals, food experiences and kpop. I got to know Korean culture better by participating in these activities, and I also met many new friends.

Leveraging campus resources: Schools typically provide support services to international students, such as language counselling, psychological counseling, and cultural exchange activities. These resources are important to adapt to the new environment.

3. Experience with wiki technology

In the course taught, I first came across wiki technology. It is a powerful collaborative tool that can be used to write, edit and share content. Through group projects, I learned how to organize and present information using Wikivoyage and Wikipedia. This not only improved my technical skills, but also fostered a spirit of teamwork. This skill is very helpful in both academic and future career fields.

4. Recommendations for improving the international student experience

While the overall experience has been very positive, I think the school can further optimize the following:

Additional language support: More free Korean language courses for international students who are new to Korea to help them adapt to life faster.

Expand cultural exchange activities: organize more interaction between local and international students to promote mutual understanding and friendship.

Studying and living in Korea is a challenging but meaningful experience. From academic programs to everyday life, I have learned many valuable knowledge and skills. I hope that both myself and other international students will be better able to adapt and integrate into Korean life and enjoy studying abroad.
