Summary:
Socialization is a key sociological process that involves how individuals function in and prepare for society. It consists primarily of impulse control and conscience development, role preparation and fulfillment, and the cultivation of sources of meaning. This process will vary across cultures, races, classes, genders, sexualities, and religious backgrounds because socialization is culturally relative. It is worth noting, however, that not every aspect of human behavior is acquired through learning; some aspects may be biologically determined. The question of the extent to which human behavior is biologically determined or acquired remains an open one, but recent research suggests that there is an interaction between culture and biology.
