1.Summary
Social stratification refers to a society's classification of its people into groups based on socioeconomic factors such as wealth, income, race, education, ethnicity, gender, occupation, social status, or derived power (social and political). It refers to the ranking of a particular society's people by socioeconomic classification based on factors such as wealth, income, social status, occupation and power. The concept of social stratification is often used and interpreted in different ways in particular theories, lacking resources and lack of social mobility.According to Marx, the social class is determined by a person's relationship to the means of production.
2.What I Learned?
According to Marx, the social class is determined by a person's relationship to the means of production.Max Weber was strongly influenced by Marx's ideas and developed a layered three-part theory and the concept of life opportunity. He adopted different concepts from functionalist and Marxist theory to create his own system. He emphasized the differences between class, status, and power, and viewed these as separate but related sources of power, each with a different impact on social action.
3.Question
The social status variables behind social stratification are based on social perceptions and attitudes towards the various characteristics of individuals and ethnic groups, broadly divided into economic and other social factors. So: in today's context of globalization and rapid technological development, how does social stratification affect social mobility, particularly equity in access to education and career opportunities for people from different socio-economic backgrounds?
Social stratification often leads to uneven distribution of educational resources. Wealthy families have more financial resources to support their children in receiving high-quality education, including entering top schools, participating in extracurricular tutoring, and having a better learning environment. This makes it difficult for children from low-income families to obtain equal educational opportunities, resulting in educational inequality. A strong social security system, such as unemployment insurance, social welfare and medical security, can alleviate the negative impact of social stratification on low-income groups to a certain extent and improve their social mobility.
