Topics of interest in sociology include social relationships, social stratification, social interaction, culture, deviant behavior, among others, and methods include both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Sociology originated in the early 19th century in response to the challenges of modernity, increased mobility, and technological advancements leading to encounters with different cultures and societies. Founders of early sociology include Auguste Comte, among others, who had a profound influence on the development of sociology. Sociology is of significant importance in understanding and addressing social issues.

In sociology, both quantitative and qualitative methods are employed to study various aspects of human society, focusing on topics such as social relationships, social stratification, culture, deviant behavior, and more.
