W 5. 2

Sociology of religion is the study of things about religion (beliefs, practices, organizations, etc.) in the same way that the field of sociology is studied. The sociology of religion differs significantly from theology in that it is not intended to assess validity from philosophy of religion, and it is indifferent to the supernatural. Karl Marx argued that religion is a great obstacle to reason, that it essentially misleads its followers for the truth, and Émile Durkheim said that religion is very real, an expression of society itself, and that there is no society without religion. Max Weber also said that we must understand religious acts in and of themselves, and that if religious people claim to be engaged in religious acts, we must first try to understand the point of view of religious people
