【Week 1.1 March 4(Mon)】——Cheng Yating

1. Summary

In the first video, I learned about the detailed introduction of the instructor, class rules, grading and assignments, exams, and so on. I like this pattern that all the learning resources are accessible online so that I can preview and review them easily and flexibly. In addition, there are many links to each concept and topic which is very convenient for me to learn more details about them.

2. Interesting

1)Why are you taking the class?

Although I am not majoring in sociology, I have been interested in sociology for a long time and have learned some sociology knowledge, such as feminism. A lot of the questions that I want answers to are related to sociology, like how does society work? Why do people behave this way or that way? So I was lucky enough to take this course and majored in sociology from scratch.

2)What PRACTICAL SKILLS do you expect to gain from attention it?

I want to know if I am interested in a topic, how can I collect relevant information and learn from the easy to the difficult? In addition, I want to learn some sociological investigation methods such as field investigation.

3. Discussion

Before that, I barely used Wikipedia. Wikipedia is something that many people can edit, so it is subjective such as the material they choose or the aspect they introduce. I wonder how to distinguish between right and wrong information objectively because when we use Wikipedia, we don't know much about this concept, so it is difficult to tell whether it is true or not, or whether it is mixed with the author's subjective opinion.
